The Department of Business Foreign Languages has been teaching students of economic and humanities specialties for more than 15 years. The department was established as a result of the division of the department of foreign languages into two separate chairs: the department of technical English languages and business foreign languages. In 2009 the department of intercultural communication joined the department of business foreign languages. The purpose of the integration is to consolidate methodological and scientific efforts of teachers in teaching foreign languages to students of economic and humanities faculties according to international standards.

Today the head of the department is Vasilina Litovchenko, Candidate of Sciences in Philology, Associate Professor.

There are 35 teachers at the department, 5 of them have scientific degrees. The major disciplines of the department are as follows: “ESL”, “Business English”, “ESP”. The department teaches students of additional qualification “Interpreter in the Sphere of Professional Communication”, graduate and post-graduate students, offers various additional courses in foreign languages to school pupils and students.

6 teachers of the department took part in the “LAPROCOM” TEMPUS project and developed the following modules: “General English”, “Business English”, “Intercultural Communication”, “ESP for Teachers of Non-linguistic Specialties”. As a result of this work they issued textbooks in Intercultural Communication and English Language for Teachers of Non-Linguistic Disciplines.

Department of Foreign Languages for Technical Students was opened in 2002. The head of the department is Marina Victorovna Savelyeva, Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, Associate Professor.

The staff of the department is teaching foreign languages (English, German, French, Italian, and Chinese) to students, post-graduates and students of Master Programme of technical specialties at the Siberian state Aerospace University named after academician M.F. Reshetnev. At the moment 24 teachers are working at the department. 5 of them have scientific degree, 3 persons are Associate Professors. According to the syllabi, three main disciplines are taught at the department: 1) General foreign language, 2) Business foreign language, 3) Foreign language for specific purposes.

Every year the teachers of the Department of Foreign Languages for Technical Students publish articles in scientific journals and workbooks for the students.

Four teachers of the Department are participants of the Laprocom Project (Tempus Tacis); they develop the module “English for Specific Purposes”.
