The established project goals were successfully achieved within three years due to the high professionalism exhibited by the participants and close cooperation between partners.

  • English language curriculum for students of technical specialties in SibSAU was redesigned.
  • English language teaching methodologies, resources and curricula were renewed and redesigned.
  • A full needs analysis of the English language learning needs of the student body and of the teaching staff was conducted.
  • Intensive training in ECTS and Bologna requirements was provided by specialists from partner Universities for teaching staff and administration of SibSAU.
  • The group of 15 English language teachers from SibSAU received training in language teaching methodologies at Edinburgh, Herriot-Watt University and at Granada State University, and in Krasnoarsk from visiting staff of the EU partners.
  • The Resource Centre of Foreign Languages was established in SibSAU . It was supplied with books on teaching methodologies for foreign language teachers, course books for students studying foreign languages, dictionaries etc. The Centre was also equipped with various modern technical aids including a video hall, DVD players and screens.
  • A multimedia computer language laboratory with up-to-date language teaching software was established.
  • Three new modules including General English, Business English, English for Specific Purposes were developed.
  • A 14-week pilot course based on the developed materials was run for students of technical specialties.
  • A special ESP course for teachers of technical specialties was developed and piloted during 2009. The course is aimed at preparing teachers of non-linguistic disciplines to use English sources and authentic materials while teaching their professional disciplines.
  • 6 students of technical specialties studied in Edinburhg for 1 semester and received appropriate language training as well as followed some courses in their specialist areas.
  • 7 teachers of technical disciplines traveled to Herriot-Watt University for a 1 month stay to get practical experience in English as well as to develop their own tailor-made courses in professional areas which will be then delivered in SibSAU in the English language.
  • A series of bi-lingual and monolingual professional glossaries for students and specialists of technical areas were developed by joined teams of SibSAU English language and technical teachers.
  • A set of teaching-learning materials for the developed course was compiled and published. It includes the full catalogue of the curriculum, three published textbooks in English for Specific Purposes, Intercultural Communication and ESP for Teachers of non-linguistic disciplines; each module portfolios as well as sets of photocopied materials and Internet resources and links for each module.
  • As a results of the pilot course and visit to Edinburgh 7 technical subject related courses in the English language were developed by the technical teachers of SibSAU.
  • All project teaching-learning materials have been prepared for Distance Learning Server of SibSAU.
  • A special web-site with the information about the project, its participants, main activities and project outcomes was created.
  • A Dissemination conference to share the experience gained in the project as well as to enable the continuation of the foreign language training courses will be held at SibSAU in October, 2009.
